Western Australia
Perth is the capital of Western Australia and is the 4th most popular city in Australia The Perth metropolitan area has a population of approx 1,700,000 The summers are usually hot and dry with yearly temperatures ranging from 10 deg Celsius in the winter to 45 deg Celsius in the summer.
South Australia
South Australia is located in the southern central part of the country with a total land area of 379,725 sq miles and is the 4th largest of Australia’s states and territories. The majority of its people Reside in the state capital of Adelaide. Its climate is Mediterranean style with a temperature range of 84 deg f in January to 59 deg f in July. It has a population of approx 1.3million.
Northern Territories
The Northern Territory is a federal territory of Australia occupying much of the centre mainland Continent as well as the central northern regions. The capital city is Darwin with other major settlements including Alice Springs, Katherine and Tennant Creek. Climate wise the Northern Territory has two distinctive zones, the northern end including Darwin has a tropical climate the central region is the desert centre of the country which includes Alice springs and Ayers Rock and is semi arid with little rain fall. The temperatures range between 110deg f high and 20deg f low.
Queensland
The state of Queensland is located in the north east of the country. The state is Australis’s 2nd largest area following western Australia and the 3rd most popular area after New South wales and Victoria. The capital and largest city in the state is Brisbane with a population of approx 4,100,000. Climate Because of its size there is significant variation across the state. There are 5 predominant climatic Zones in Queensland.

New South Wales
New South Wales is located in the east of the country and encompasses the whole of the Australian Capital Territory. The capital of NSW is Sydney which is also the state’s largest city with a population of 7,240,000 approx. Most of NSW has an arid or semi-arid climate, however the eastern portion has a temperate climate. Temperatures range from minimum temperatures of 9 deg Celsius in the winter to 30deg Celsius in the summer.
Victoria
The state of Victoria is in the south east of the country and the capital city is Melbourne. Victoria has a varied climate despite its small size; it ranges from semi-arid and hot in the North West to temperate and cooler along the coast. Victoria is the 2nd wettest state in Australia with average monthly temperatures ranging from 13deg Celsius in the winter to 32deg Celsius in high summer.
ACT
Australian Capital Territory is the capital territory of Australia. It is the home of Canberra which is the National capital. Because of its elevation and distance from the coast the ACT experiences 4 distinct Seasons unlike many other Australian cities whose climates are moderate by the sea Canberra is Notorious for hot dry summers and cold winters with occasional fog and frequent frosts.
Tasmania
Tasmania which is often abbreviated as Tas and referred to as Tassie is an Australian island and state. It is located 150miles south of the main continent separated by the Bass Strait. Tasmania is the 26th Largest island in the world. The capital of Tasmania and home to the local government is the city of Hobart. Tasmania has a cool temperate climate with 4 distinct seasons with an average high temperature of 75deg f in the summer and 39deg f in the winter.
